After years of hitting the road with Appa myself — from summers in Albania to winters in Lapland — I feel it is time to let others enjoy it too. Appa is great if you dream of owning your own self-built camper and want to gather ideas, but of course also if you simply want an adventure.
Appa is a cozy self-built camper from 2022. Over the past few years, I have continuously modified it so that you can hit the road comfortably in the winter as well. With two people, you can travel self-sufficiently for about three days; with a little planning, five days is also possible. And if the weather is bad? Then there is plenty of room inside to sit comfortably. For me, Appa is the perfect compromise between comfort and adventure.
What Appa has to offer
🚌Compact 5.5-meter bus: it often just fits into a parking space. Moreover, at many nature campsites and ferries, it falls into the small camper category.
🚌Smart layout with a lengthwise bed, a good IKEA mattress, and a pull-out footboard. There is also room for a two-seater sofa with an extendable table.
🚌Three-burner gas stove, with enough space to enjoy cooking.
🚌Electric roof hatch for good ventilation.
Built-in water filter for delicious drinking water.
🚌All-terrain four-season tires with M+S marking. Snow and mud chains with self-tensioner are included.
🚌LiFePO4 battery, rechargeable via solar panels, while driving, or — if necessary — via shore power.
🚌Built-in Boxio dry toilet, which you can also remove from the camper.
🚌 Autoterm 2D auxiliary heater on the diesel tank. I slept wonderfully in it, even at -20 °C.
🚌Fold-out desk: how to turn the passenger seat into a mobile home office.
🚌Bearlock security, 3Gas+ alarm and smoke alarm installed
🚌Shower bag available for showering outside in the summer
Available for rent optionally
A luxury extendable bike carrier for two bikes, so the rear doors can still be opened. A bike cover is included.
To retrieve
Appa can be picked up on location. For longer rental periods, delivery and pick-up at your front door is possible in consultation.
