This is an attractive and eye-catching conversion, but it’s not without its issues…. If you are 6 foot tall or more, this campervan is not for you. It’s not possible to push the driver’s seat back far enough for a tall driver because the kitchen units are too close to the back of the chair. So for anyone with long legs it’s an uncomfortable squeeze in the drivers seat, which also makes it dangerous when trying to move feet between the pedals. The passenger experience is not much better - unlike a regular Cali, the passenger seat sits atop a clunky ‘swivel’ mechanism, and so the passenger’s seated position is raised by that amount. Again if you are 6 foot tall or more, your head will be skimming the ceiling - or worse. The trip didn’t start well because on arrival we were told that the bike carrier as advertised (now removed from the listing) did not exist, and the integrated night heater as advertised (and still listed) was not working. The substitute plug-in radiator provided was not up to the task so a weekend away in March became a chilly misery. Luckily, Mark (the owner) is a reasonable type and did apologise and give us some financial compensation for these omissions. Storage (or the lack of) is also a big issue. The units have ridiculously small openings so are not terribly practical. We gave up and didn’t use them. There is little storage under the rear seats due to the frame/structure and not a huge amount in the rear either. The table does not fold away while still attached to the rail, so this is another item taking up more precious space. The front passenger seat does not swivel. Yes - it can be rotated, but only if the seat cushions are lifted, the base plate is unbolted from the ground, the chair turned manually and then the base plate bolted in the new position. The two plates don’t line up particularly well, so this is not an easy task. We would also caution against sleeping “upstairs”. There are no springs to the loft bed in and just a thin foam mattress by way of cushioning. The ground outside would be more forgiving! There are no integrated shades for the windscreen, cockpit side windows or rear window. The substitute for the windscreen works after a fashion but the substitute for the rear window simply doesn’t stay in place. Whilst sleeping downstairs did solve the comfort issue, this does restrict the usefulness of upstairs. March 2024
