Dory is a beautiful VW T6.1. She is the 199bhp DSG variant meaning plenty of power for the steep, beautiful bits and effortless driving on the way there! With adaptive cruise control and an automatic gearbox this camper really can get through the miles effortlessly. And as the ‘moving about’ bit is kind of a big deal with the whole idea of campervans we thought this important to mention! Comfort is the name of the game here, after all this is a holiday!
The van is set up on full comfort adjustable suspension smoothing out the ride and with the carbon fibre low profile pop top roof there is no car park off limits! Again rather a big deal as many car parks nowadays to beachfronts and national parks are adorned with a 2m height limit so go where the cars go!
As this is a road trip, you’ll need some tunes! Equipped with the very capable alpine concert ensemble kit, make sure everyone hears Cliff belting out “we’re all going on a (enter appropriate season here) holiday!!"
Of course you won’t be hitting those long traffic jams with wireless Apple CarPlay and Google maps so you can go where the traffic isn’t. And all the while you finally have a choice of £4.50 for a Costa or pop in the back and make your own. If you drink as much tea as us then that’s the holiday paid for!!
Dory is moving on from the old era of leisure batteries that conk out after one night off hook-up and being reliant on gas to cook on, she’s modern you know! This is in large part thanks to her lithium battery and solar panel setup. This also enables us to get rid of the need for big on-board gas bottles. Helpful for the planet but also for planning. Nothing worse than running out of gas miles from a distributor and having no way of cooking that night! She has two induction hobs which can easily be run from hook-up from the site or with careful planning from the battery system off grid (she has a battery percentage gauge to make it super easy to know what you have left!). Appropriate pots and pans are all included along with a whole wealth of utensils and cutlery so all you need to bring is your chef’s hat and inappropriate apron and it is over to you!
Come bedtime it’s time to flip the Rib chair from super safe seating with ISOfix to sleep mode and with the added mattress topper you are sure to get the recharge needed for the next day’s activities. Upstairs in the pop top there is a mattress provided for 1 or 2 small children to sleep. If you are planning on being a group of adventurers instead of a couple then we do require you to take our extra “base camp” drive away awning that attaches to the vehicle. It is inflatable so hopefully argument free! This gives an extra bedroom or living area should the Great British weather turn rubbish and in situations of extremely high winds, the pop roof will need to be lowered so trying to squeeze the kids in a 3” gap for bedtime would no longer be an option, would keep them quiet though!
Dory is ready for adventure! Covered with full onward travel RAC and European wide insurance the road is well and truly ready for travelling. From raw, rugged Scotland (diesel heater on board!) or the sunny Aires of France on the way down the Adriatic coast (air conditioning and breathable, scenic cotton canvas!) the roads are waiting, and Dory is ready to take you there in style and comfort!
