Lady Orange 1974 (Volkswagen T2B)
Our old lady has been in possession since 2011 to cruise through Europe with partner and friends. Lady Orange has since experienced England, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany up close. In 2019 it was time for an engine overhaul, in 2021 she received a household battery. In the winter of 2022, an overhaul of the automatic gearbox and welding work on the windscreen followed.
Our motorhome has many original features such as furniture and furnishings. The sofa folds down into a double bed and the pop-up roof has recently been fitted with a new tent cloth. You can sleep at the top, and the pop-up roof is also open during cooking activities. The bus is equipped with many conveniences; running water, a refrigerator at 230V when camping with fixed power, a two-burner gas stove and a household battery that makes a 12V system available for small electrical equipment such as chargers, telephone, fan, etc. A bus tent (connects to the gutter) is available as additional elements. , a camping table and two folding chairs. The original seating cube can also serve as storage furniture and seating. Choices galore!
The contents are complete with a pan set, cutlery and original Brabantia crockery for 4 people. Also available are a roll-up topper, a complete bedding package and hand and tea towels. A waterproof bag for the roof is available for extra luggage space, good for the supplied double duvet, for example. Also included is a lovely picnic blanket in matching orange.
We rent our lady from a private status. We do this to keep her on the road for years to come. We foresee a lot of maintenance in the future, including for spraying and welding. We live in the countryside south of Breda. When you come to pick up the bus, you can safely leave your own car on your own property.
Of course some background about Lady Orange. In March 1974 she rolled off the production line in Wolfsburg, Germany. From the assembly line in Wolfsburg, the bus first travels to Weidenbruck, where Westfalia equips the bus with all kinds of camper accessories. The Westfalia "Dallas" version has been specially developed for the American market and features a beautiful lifting roof, substructure propane tank for gas stove, mini fridge and of course a sink including water tap. No less than 4 people can sleep in it, so an average family can easily go out with it. After fitting the bling-bling, Lady Orange first drives to Dusseldorf airport. It's already reserved for vacationing Americans. In the 1970s there was an offer from Volkswagen, of course elaborating on the hippie status of the previous years, that American tourists would pick up their own hippie bus themselves to make a long tour through Europe. Right from the airport, the tourists pick her up for 4 weeks of camping fun. The owners will then return home by plane and Volkswagen will arrange transport of the bus to California. So Lady Orange arrived in California on a beautiful cruise and spent the longest time of her life there. In 2011 she came back to Europe by ship, where we are the first new owners.
