After an unforgettable trip through New Zealand, we knew that one day we would have our own campervan! It took a while, but recently we became the proud owners of a fantastic Ford Nugget with a high roof.
The camper is from 2008, but looks practically new inside and out! It also drives fantastically, with its compact dimensions, comfortable seats, cruise control, 140 hp, and 6 gears.
The Nugget features a smart layout with a very practical L-shaped kitchen at the rear. The pull-out bed upstairs measures 150x200cm. The 3-seater sofa can be converted into a short bed of approx. 130x180cm. When the high bed is extended, there is still plenty of room to sit downstairs. This is very convenient if your partner wants to sleep while you want to read a book or watch a movie. Both front seats swivel, allowing you to create a cozy seating area.
Over the past few months, we have given our Nugget a substantial upgrade. The kitchen has been renovated and now features a bamboo worktop, a 90-liter fridge with a freezer compartment, a small water heater, and a spacious three-burner hob. The van is also now equipped with a 1600-watt Victron charger-inverter with a large 314Ah lithium battery.
A double floor has been installed under the kitchen so that camping furniture and leveling blocks no longer need to be stored in the living area. We have also installed an outdoor shower (with hot water) and a new roof hatch with a temperature-controlled fan.
(Photos coming soon!)
We had already installed solar panels on the roof, but with the improvements mentioned above, the Nugget is even better suited for off-grid use. We ourselves will be taking it on a longer trip again for the first time in the spring of 2026. After that, the Nugget will be available for booking again!
What else? The interior can be darkened. Thanks to the auxiliary heater (diesel, so no gas bottle stress...), it stays nice and warm even in freezing temperatures. The underside received an anti-rust treatment in late 2022, meaning the camper can be used problem-free all year round (winter sports by arrangement). Our Nugget is also equipped with a bike rack, a chemical-free Trobolo Wandago separating toilet, a large awning, and a tailgate cover. Also not unimportant: the camper has a green German environmental sticker and a French Crit'Air sticker. With these stickers, you are allowed to enter most French, German (and also Spanish) cities.
Although the camper is in principle suitable for sleeping upstairs or downstairs, starting in 2026 we prefer to rent it to no more than 2 people.
Finally: We live in the north of the country, but if you would like to rent our camper for a bit longer, we can potentially deliver it to your doorstep and come pick it up again, subject to agreement!
