Covering 1,604 square kilometres of rolling hills, glorious woodland, and historic villages, High Weald AONB is a superb destination for motorhome holidaymakers. High Weald is considered to be one of the finest remaining medieval landscapes in Northern Europe. Weald means forest or wilderness and refers to the area's history as a wooded environment with abundant wild grassland and heathland. This picturesque area of Kent still includes the highest proportion of ancient woodland in England and visitors will doubtless delight in the wonderful range of wildlife here.

High Weald is of national importance for nature conservation and includes many Sites of Scientific Interest (SSSI), Sites of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI) and Scheduled Ancient Monuments. This is a relatively sparsely populated area of South East England with 125,000 people living primarily in small settlements across four counties. This is the perfect destination for travellers looking for a tranquil environment in which to relax and soak up the sounds of birdsong or take in some charming and characterful historic villages. It’s also an excellent destination for those who are looking for a bit more adventure. Rock climbing, trekking, cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding and boating are all popular pastimes in this lovely part of the world.

To make sure you have the right spot for your relaxation or to return to after your day’s exertions you’re going to need to find the ideal campsite. Let’s take a look at some great options for motorhome camping in High Weald AONB.

  1. Coldharbour Farm

With beautiful views across the North Downs and Bewl Water, Coldharbour Farm is just the job for motorhome holidaymakers who want to truly get away from it all. As the name suggests, this welcoming site is situated on working agricultural land so you’ll be treated to the company of geese, chickens, horses, sheep and ducks. When you have breakfasted on tasty fresh produce from the onsite farm shop you can journey to the seaside town of Hastings or Royal Tunbridge Wells just half an hour's drive away. Bewl Water and its watersport activities are a ten-minute stroll as is a 14th-century pub serving local ales.

There are just three campervan sites available here so it’s a good idea to book well in advance. The owners, siblings Gwen and Tony are happy to welcome families (immediate members only) and couples but aren’t currently taking bookings for groups. Coldharbour Farm doesn’t have shower or toilet facilities so you need to come equipped. Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
