1. For families
If you’re travelling with kids and looking for campsites near Shrewsbury, look no further than Walnut Cottage Caravan Park. This family-run site is a mere nine miles from Wenlock Edge and the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s considered to be a paradise for ramblers and adventurers, surrounded by walking routes, cycling paths and riding trails.
But this might be a little too advanced for the little ones, so what will attract them to Walnut Cottage Caravan Park? The swings, climbing frame, toddlers area and trampoline ensure that everyone has a good time here! Be sure to check out our list of camping activities for kids. After burning off their energy in the playground, kids will be overjoyed to find the barbecue fired up and supplied by the nearby convenience store in Much Wenlock. 2. For hikers
Tucked away on a small farm, Near Gatten Campsite is situated in the thick of the Shropshire Hills, offering gorgeous lake views and sight of the Long Mynd. This campsite is a twenty-minute drive from Stiperstones and half an hour from Shrewsbury, and a twenty-minute drive to Bishop’s Castle.
The true delight of Near Gatten Campsite is the countless walking paths surrounding it, as you can easily stroll over to the heaths or hike through Stiperstones National Nature Reserve. So be sure to pack your trusty walking boots! If long walks aren’t quite your cup of tea, you could instead opt for the short stroll to the local pub, which is half an hour by foot.
Unlike other Shropshire camping sites, Near Gatten Campsite is available for groups, as it’s spread over eight acres providing ample room for all. This allows you to also enjoy a bit of privacy and space for your awning. The site offers showers, flushing toilets and multiple water points. Firepits are available upon request, and firewood is sold on-site. Finally, you can also sign up for a cooked breakfast on Saturday and a Sunday roast dinner!
When driving to this campsite, avoid coming over the Long Mynd as this route is a narrow country lane unsuitable for larger motorhomes. Instead, drive via Buildbaqse on Longden Road in Shrewsbury, which is half an hour further but far safer!

3. For visiting villages
If you’re looking for Shropshire motorhome sites that could act as a base camp whilst you explore the charming market towns, then Fairhaven Camping and Glamping should be your top choice. This family-run site is close to the Montgomery canal and a mere two miles from Oswestry. It’s located in the village of Maesbury, and by foot or bike, you can easily reach traditional pubs, cafes, shops and more! It’s also close to public transport opportunities to explore the area further.
After you’ve had more than your fair share of scones or pints, you can return to the campsite for a peaceful evening. Fairhaven Camping and Glamping stretches over four acres of quiet green space, leaving plenty of room for a campfire, barbecue or evening stroll. 4. For furry friends
When considering Shropshire motorhome sites that allow dogs, Abdo Hill Farm certainly stands out. This scenic family site is a half-hour drive from Ironbridge, Telford steam Railway and Hoo Farm. It’s also a ten-minute drive from Shropshire’s Market Drayton.
This is a simple site, ideal for those who don’t need the bells and whistles and instead prefer bringing it back to basics. You’ll find basic facilities like toilet blocks, waste disposal and barbecue disposal, but aside from that, it’s about camping. You’ll find plenty of walking routes to enjoy with your dog, such as a stroll along the Shropshire Union Canal or Ercall Wood. If your furry friend can handle it, you could even climb the peak of the Wrekin.
Whilst your dog enjoys snoozing at the site, you can tuck into some fresh eggs and home-cured bacon, both of which are available on-site. Or the pair of you could head to the nearby inn for a delicious cooked meal.

5. For almost wild camping
Whilst wild camping is not permitted in Shropshire, we’ve found the next best thing. Out of all the camping sites in Shropshire, Lower Vessons Farm is the most secluded option. Located in the stunning mid-Shropshire Hills, it’s a half-hour drive to Shrewsbury and doesn’t even have roads; the site is spread across 16 acres of dense woodland and vast fields. You have free reign to pick your own spot, allowing you to determine your level of privacy and view.
Many near-wild camping sites aren’t open to campervans, but Lower Vessons Farm gladly welcomes them and will even give you a hand with finding the right spot!
Despite the rural vibe of the campsite, you’re only a few miles away from pubs, takeaways and restaurants, so a warm meal is always close at hand. As part of the wild camping in Shropshire experience, this site welcomes campfires, dogs and barbecues.
This site is better suited to self-contained motorhomes, as it does not offer showers. It also has non-electric pitches.

6. For fishing and swimming
The Green Caravan Park offers several riverside pitches, allowing you to enjoy a gorgeous view of the River East Onny. Aside from these river pitches, you can also set up on the park island, the dingle, the Plateau or the meadow - all of which offer gorgeous views of Onny Valley countryside and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This campsite has been described by previous visitors as “a little gem”.
But the river is for more than admiring, as you can enjoy plenty of related activities. Try your hand at fishing, bring a net and sift through the slow-flowing waters, or wade through to cool off. Aside from this, there’s also an area set aside for nature wilderness, a play area and space for outdoor sports. The Green Caravan Park welcomes dogs as well and even features a dog walk and exercise area.
You can opt for an electric or non-electric pitch. Keep in mind that fires are not permitted, given the surrounding woodland. There is also minimal phone service, which provides the perfect chance to go off the grid!

7. For every traveller
As you can tell by now, there are a lot of Shropshire motorhome sites to choose from! But Ted's at Hunger Hill stands out in how they cater to all travellers. This is one of the only campsites near Shrewsbury that ensures access for disabled guests. They have disabled-friendly showers and toilets, as well as providing access for the chemical disposal points and charging stations. This campsite is also easy to reach, just off the main A5, and is close to Sheriffhales village.
It’s a cosy campsite consisting of grass pitches on a gently sloping field. Don’t be surprised to spot sheep and ducks wandering across the site. Kids and adults alike will appreciate the menagerie at the animal paddock. Pitches offer electric hook up, and you can choose whether you’d like to park in the shade.
Visitors praise this campsite for how peaceful it is, with no busy roads nearby to disturb the atmosphere. In addition, the owner is hands-on and always happy to help.
