It is rare for campsites to be located close to the city centre whilst still achieving the rural and tranquil vibe we prefer, but Lyons Farm manages exactly that. This site is conveniently positioned close to the local station to the city centre as well as only 4 miles from the market town of Ormskirk. The site is a short drive away from numerous National Trust sites, the seaside town of Southport, a golf course and much more! The site itself is situated on a small arable farm in the beautiful countryside, and offers electric hook ups and drinking water on each pitch. The campsite is a simpler one, providing the bare minimums, but is the perfect location for exploring this area whilst still enjoying camping.
Another one of the best campsites in Liverpool is the Hidden Camping Corner. This campsite is enclosed and sheltered, a quiet grassy site that can only hold up to 5 motorhomes and 10 tents. The site is within walking distance of public transport, shops, pubs and only 10 miles from Liverpool City centre. Within 10 miles you can also reach beaches and National Trust properties. The site is also minimal in facilities, but offers decadent kitchen facilities, to make camping cuisine that little bit easier and fun.
Things to do in Liverpool
A personal favourite of the things to do in Liverpool is the Beatles Story. One of the first things people think of with Liverpool is the Beatles, and it is not surprising! This museum is spread between two sites and offers an atmospheric insight into the life, culture and music of the iconic 1960s English rock band. There is also the Beatles and sightseeing walking tour, where you’ll get to learn the true Liverpool from a local whilst hearing more about your favourite heartthrobs. Follow this by a trip on the Mersey Ferry, a ferry tour across the vast estuary of Liverpool’s river. You’ll be able to choose between a standard hop-on-hop-off cruise or a combination ticket that provides entrance to other Liverpool attractions. If you’re lucky you’ll get the decked out boat, which was ‘dazzle painted’ by pop artist Sir Peter Blake to commemorate the centenary of World War I.
If you’re looking to relax or have energetic little one’s with you that won’t sit still, take them to Sefton Park. This 235 acre site has got tons to keep the entire family. There is a large playground and multi-play area that will keep the kids distracted for hours! Then head over to the Liverpool Botanical Collection in the Victorian Palm House or rest in one of the cafes in the park. There are also caves and waterfalls in the park to be explored and relished.
Events in Liverpool
Since the real event we would all like to attend in Liverpool is the mystical reincarnation of the Beatles for a final tour, we’ll have to settle for some of the other great options. One of the most unique events in Liverpool is the British Musical Fireworks Championship at the end of September. This is the only competition of its kind in the UK, and is no ordinary firework display. The festival is three days long and spectators watch some of the best pyrotechnic companies battle it out to be the winner, which is judged by their synchronisation to music, mood and flow, variety and effects, choice of music, overall design and choreography. Warning, once you’ve seen this, fireworks will never look the same again!
Wait, but there is a chance to witness the greatness of the Beatles again in their hometown! The annual International Beatleweek Festival takes place at the end of August and is not one to miss. This festival is truly international, with 70 bands from over 20 countries and fans from over 40 countries. The focus of the festival most definitely is live music, but at the convention of the Sunday of the event there will be guest speakers, a massive Beatles marketplace, videos, quizzes and more!
