Designed for comfort and style, this has everything you need for an all year round live in vehicle. Totally off-grid with two huge solar panels and a 125 litre water tank.
We're a 7 minute walk from Salisbury train station. We're a 15 minute drive from Stonehenge, The New Forest and Cranbourne Chase, 45 minutes from the beaches of Bournemouth and 20 minutes from the A303 to Cornwall, the west country and beyond.
We built the whole van around a shabby chic, 3 seater leather chesterfield sofa - comfortable and luxurious, believe me you will be the envy of everyone in the campsite. The double front seats spin and have posh Bentley stitch waterproof covers providing a very spacious lounge area with a Bluetooth stereo and multiple ceiling speakers.
The permanent bed is 4' wide (cosy) & 6' 4" long with a memory foam mattress. With all the curving oiled wood it feels more like a boat cabin and (amazingly) the walls really do reduce noise, so you can get some sleep even if others are still chatting on the sofas. The 3rd berth is only suitable for smaller adults or children (it's 5' 1" long - across the front seats). A fourth small person can sleep on the Chesterfield sofa (it's 4' 5" long) but remember, there are only 3 seat belts so someone would need to travel in another vehicle. If you would prefer to get rid of the children we can supply a dome tent and inflatable mattress on request (no extra cost). All bedding is provided.
There's loads of room to lob everyone's clothes in the open cupboard above the front cab with lots, lots more storage space under the bed. There's a large wooden box to throw your shoes in underneath plenty of hooks to hang your wet coats. It was built with festivals and long winter living in mind so it's fairly indestructible, all the wood is heavily danish oiled so it's super easy to clean.
The diesel heater runs off the vans fuel tank, blowing hot air at the push of a button. In the depths of winter it keeps the van toasty on the lowest setting. The curtains, floor, walls and ceiling are fully insulated and there's a two-way roof fan skylight above the bed. Keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
There are 3 cooking appliances, all portable. 1 x double hob ring, 1 x single hob ring, (10 canisters provided - each lasts three hrs on low heat and about 1.5 hrs on high flame) plus a safari outside cooker. There is a fire pit/BBQ with tripod grill. The fridge is a 40 Litre Mains and 12V & 24V Electric Coolbox. Included are; all the pots and pans, cups and glasses etc. you could need for 4 people, along with a small larder of olive oil, salt and pepper and tea and coffee. It has alarms for both smoke and carbon monoxide and a fire extinguisher on the wall. There is a small sink with cold running water and a washing up bowl for doing the dishes.
There are numerous USB sockets, all over the living space, for all your devices. The van is a high top so there's a good 6 foot of headroom. Outside, there's a rack for 2 bikes, two comfortable camping chairs, two stools and a camping table (and don't forget the fire pit/tripod BBQ and Safari cooker!)
The wet room has a toilet and a cold water shower (this can be warmed up with kettle water if you're not into the invigoration of cold water). As well as the large water tank, there are 2 x 10 litre carriers (for shower warm water - 10 litres is enough for a short shower). Chemical toilets are rank and not good for the environment. Our toilet is a clever Separett compost loo (NO nasty sights or smells). The pee is caught in a large portable tank and any poop and paper lands on and is then covered by lovely sawdust. Emptying it is just lifting out a bin liner of sawdust to be binned. Easy. If you prefer, you can freshen up with a new bin liner every day but it's not necessary.
It has a hidden engine kill switch and a steering lock, so no ones stealing it. Besides, it has 'Terry the white van man' puppet driver so it looks like someone is always sitting in the drivers seat anyway!
The XXLWB means it is over 7 meters long and more like driving a bus than a van going around corners and through gates. As it's a hightop you also need to be mindful of low bridges and tree branches. So, you will need to confirm that you have experience of driving a really long, tall van. Also, it's length makes it unsuitable for mountain roads as the turning circle and possibility of grounding out means tight hair pins are impossible. If you try you will get stuck.
We lived in this van touring Portugal and Spain for the winter for 90 days straight and loved every minute of it, now we are very much looking forward to sharing it with you.
