Discover somewhere beautiful this Autumn

There is no denying that Autumn is a beautiful time of year. The colours of the leaves and the changes in the light give landscapes and even urban areas a completely different atmosphere. It is the perfect time of year to discover somewhere new or see your favourite destinations in a completely new light (literally...)!

A holiday on the road gives you the freedom to choose your own route. Bored with the beach one day then head to a historic market town the next. The choice is yours!

Staycation Ideas

There are many locations in the UK which easily rival the renowned iconic Autumn scenes of New England, you just need to know where to go! The picturesque Wye Valley is a spectacular example. Winding roads through the wooded valley sides and along the River Wye allow you to immerse yourself in the wonderful colours of Autumn. Make sure to visit Tintern Abbey nestled in the valley for memorable forest framed views. At the other side of the country in Scotland, the forested glens surrounding Loch Lomond are a sight not to be missed. Take a beautiful walk around the the loch and see the Autumn trees reflected in its crystal waters or delve into the glens following the Millenium Forest Trail for unforgettable views across the landscape.

Loch Lomond

Somerset is also a fantastic place to visit at this time of year with dramatic Cheddar Gorge and stunning Exmoor National Park well worth a visit for their beautiful scenery! It is also harvest time and you will be able to enjoy a variety of fresh produce from local producers, especially all things apple related. If you want a mountain experience then make sure to head to Wales's Brecon Beacons and experience the iconic scenry awash with Autumn colours. Hike to the top of Pen Y Fan for amazing views over the regional mountain ranges or explore the area's magical waterfall walks made all the more special with the changing of the season.

Autumn Trips Abroad

While Autumn in the UK may certainly be beautiful it is not always so warm, but if you are seeking sun there are plenty of options available for you! If you fancy a complete change of scene this Autumn, head for sunny Portugal where in the southern Algarve region the temperature is an average 23°C with maximums even reaching 30°C! As you make your way along the coastline in your motorhome rental with the spectacular sea views and lovely white sandy beaches you will not want to leave. Neighbouring southern Spain also enjoys fantastic weather in this period and has so many interesting places to visit. Make your way to the ancient cities of Cordoba, Seville and Granada, take in the rich history and make the most of the delicious food and wine.

While the weather may be similar to the UK in the Netherlands it is nevertheless a brilliant location for an Autumn break. The country is passionate about all things camping and has a variety of chocolate box towns and cities, which are only enhanced by the vibrant colours of the urban trees. Utrecht is a city not to be missed in the Autumn with its quaint canals lined with the oranges and yellows of the trees making a beer on an outdoor terrace all the more enjoyable.

Autumn play

Fans of castles have to check out one of Wales's magical wonders, many of which can even be visited for free, such as White Castle in the Brecon Beacons. If you are in Scotland or are headed that way, make sure to check out Dundee Science Festival (6th to 21st October) where children can learn about astronomy, IT, chemistry and so much more with a variety of different activities. There is so much you can do with the kids in Scotland, especially if you want to experience fantastic natural scenery and history. Combine the two at Skara Brae, one of the best preserved neolithic settlements in Europe situated on the Orkney coast with breathtaking sea views.
